Welcome to the Gates Recreation and Parks Department website. Our administrative offices are open Monday - Friday, 9 AM - 5 PM, but will be closed Monday, September 7th in observance of the Labor Day Holiday. The office will reopen on Tuesday, September 8th at 9:00 AM. All programs will be held as scheduled today. Please see the DEPARTMENT NEWS items below for program information and updates. Golden Comets Competitive Swim Team

The Town of Gates and the Gates Chili School District are proud to offer a competitive swim program, consisting of 5 levels, which teaches proficiency in four competitive swim strokes, as well as other basic competitive swim skills such as flip turns, racing starts, etc. THIS IS NOT AN INSTRUCTIONAL SWIM PROGRAM. THIS IS A COMPETITIVE SWIM CLUB affiliated with USA Swimming for ages 5 to 21 years that begins Tuesday, September 8th. Read more.


Gates Activity Program (GAP)

Gates Recreation and Parks in cooperation with the Gates Chili School District provides a Before and After School program for students attending Neil Armstrong or Walt Disney Schools, and an After School program for students attending Gates Chili Middle School.  These programs are designed to meet the needs of parents and guardians who work during the before and/or after school hours. Read more.


Tennis Instruction

This tennis program, for ages 5 years and over being held on Saturdays from September 12 – October 10, is set up to accommodate all levels of play. You will learn basic strokes, which you will be able to use in drills and games that will show you tennis can be a lot of fun to play. Read more.


Youth Dance Classes

These enjoyable non-competitive yet structured classes for ages 4 to 18 years will follow a graded syllabus of dance. Each class will begin with warm up exercises. All classes are progressive. Read more.


Grandparent's Day Brunch

Gates Recreation is putting on a special event on Sunday, September 13th for grandparents and their grandchildren. We will have some light refreshments, a craft and time for some games of BINGO. Read more.


Bob Ross Painting Class

Have you ever wanted to try your hand at painting a picture? Have you painted before and want to get back into it? Here is your chance! Join us as those 16 years and over learn the techniques of painter Bob Ross on Monday, September 14th. Read more.


Gates Showcase

The Gates Showcase is a senior adult drama group specializing in the adaptations of children’s stories and fables. Their audiences include children and senior adults throughout Monroe and adjoining counties. Read more.


Beginner's Crocheting and Knitting

This beginner's class for ages 12 years and over, which is being held Tuesday, September 15 – November 10, will be tailored to the class participants. Patterns and some supplies will be furnished. Read more.


Line Dancing

Instructor Jerry Carmen will be here on Tuesday, September 15 – December 15 to get you moving and swinging. It’s a fun way to exercise for those ages 50 years and over. Read more.


AARP Mature Driving

The American Association for Retired Persons is offering a retraining program on Wednesday, September 16th and Friday, September 18th designed to meet the needs of motorists ages 50 years and over. No tests are given. Participants are eligible to receive up to a 10% discount on their car insurance. Read more.


Senior Fitness Class

This class held on Wednesday from September 16 – December 9 and provided by Agape Physical Therapy for ages 50 years and over, will be led by a licensed therapist, who will lead the class in generalized exercises to build strength and endurance for the upper body, trunk and legs. Read more.


Soccer Skills and Development

The world's most popular sport continues to grow at the youth level in the United States. Coach Nick and Dylan will introduce young athletes, ages 6 to 10 years, beginning Thursday, September 17th to the game at an early age and quickly enable them to build their skills, speed, strength and stamina. Read more.


Flu Clinic

This Flu Shot Clinic, being held on Friday, September 18th for ages 5 years and over is sponsored by the U of R and is FREE with valid insurance and there is no pre-registration. Read more.


Family Movie Night @ the Community Center

Come to the Gates Community Center with your family on Friday, September 18th and enjoy an indoor movie! We will be showing Cinderella (2015, live action version). Read more.


Apple Tots

Join Miss Stacie on Friday, September 18th as we celebrate the start of fall. We will have a craft and a story that will be themed around apples for ages 2 to 4 years! Read more.


Mini Maestros

This is an interactive, hands-on, music program held on Friday from September 18 – October 23 for you and your young ones ages 18 months to 5 years. Children are welcome to bring along a favorite stuffed animal (no plastic or action figures please) as they play music games, enjoy movement and rhythm exercises, as well as hands-on instrument experience. Read more.


Ballroom Dancing

Join us for these fun-filled classes for ages 18 years and over on Friday, September 18 – October 30. Learn the basics or expand your knowledge of some popular social ballroom dances, which may include Foxtrot, Waltz, Rumba, Swing, Hustle, Tango, Mambo, ChaCha and Merengue. Read more.


Saturday Morning Volleyball

This program, offered for youth in grades 3 to 6 on Saturday from September 19 – October 10, focuses on the development of basic volleyball skills while creating an understanding for the game and it's rules. The Gates Chili High School girls team will be assisting their High School coaches in teaching participants proper technique and fundamentals. Read more.

The National Recreation and Park Association’s (NRPA), as part of it's 50th Anniversary, is launching the I’m a Park and Rec KidSM campaign — a viral social media campaign asking everyone to share their "Park and Rec Kid" story and challenge others to get out to their local parks and rec and share their own story. Read more.
