Welcome to the Gates Recreation and Parks Department website. Our administrative offices are open Monday - Friday, 9 AM - 5 PM, but will be closed on Monday, October 12 in observance of the Columbus Day Holiday. The Columbus Day Recess Camp will be held as scheduled on October 12th. All other programs will not be held due to the holiday. The office will reopen Tuesday, October 13 at 9:00 AM. Please see the DEPARTMENT NEWS items below for program information and updates. Gates Recreation and Parks Department Program Offerings

Gentle Yoga

Kripalu Yoga is a practice for prior experience necessary! This class, for ages 18 years and over scheduled for Tuesday evening or Thursday morning encourages you to meet yourself right where you are, physically and emotionally. Read more.

Baby Halloween Costume Contest

Here is a contest for those who have children under 1 year of age and love Halloween. Send us a photo of your baby in their Halloween costume during the month of October. Read more.

Columbus Day Recess Camp

Join our Gates Activity Program (GAP) staff as we take a trip to Horizon Fun FX during this fun recess activity for ages 5 to 14 years. Read more.

Aromatherapy/Essential Oils 102

This class scheduled for Wednesday, October 14th for ages 18 years and over, will focus on ways to use essential oils in daily life for minor ailments and preventative health. Highlights will be on body systems such as Respiratory, Skin, Digestive, Muscles, as well as Emotions and Mood. Read more.

“Saving Mr. Banks” At the Movies

Come to the Gates Recreation Center on Friday, October 16th, if you are 18 years and over, and enjoy an evening with friends viewing movies that were a part of our past and that possibly might give us a glimpse toward the future. Read more.

Babysitting Classes Offered/Infants Needed

The Gates Recreation and Parks Department is offering a Babysitting class for boys and girls, ages 11 years and over on Saturday, October 17th. Do you have what it takes to be a responsible babysitter? You will after taking this course.

One portion of this course is the opportunity to obtain some experience dealing with real infants and toddlers. Gates Recreation and Parks Department is in need of four to five parents with a child 18 months or under, who would be willing to bring the child (and any siblings, if necessary) to this class for an hour to provide information on what they look for in a babysitter. This also provides the class members an opportunity to experience a real child.  This is a great opportunity to meet some of the babysitters in our area. Read more.

Get Out and Walk

Community parks are one of the best places to walk offering access to safe routes for physical activity as well as the added benefits of being in nature and the outdoors while you exercise. NRPA Launches I’m a Park and Rec Kid!

The National Recreation and Park Association’s (NRPA), as part of it's 50th Anniversary, is launching the I’m a Park and Rec KidSM campaign — a viral social media campaign asking everyone to share their "Park and Rec Kid" story and challenge others to get out to their local parks and rec and share their own story. Read more.
