Recreation & Park Facilities

The Gates Recreation and Parks Department owns and maintains 130 acres of parkland. Each park has recreation areas to serve various needs.


Memorial Park is a 30-acre park located at 160 Spencerport Road. The park features 3 ball diamonds, 2 football/soccer fields, natural pond, playground, bocce court, and rest rooms.  The enclosed shelter, with covered patio, has a small kitchen equipped with a stove, microwave, refrigerator and freezer.  Seating capacity is approximately 125. Lions Park is a 14-acre park located at 100 Kentucky Avenue off of Long Pond Road. The park has an enclosed shelter with a covered patio and a kitchen equipped with a stove, microwave, refrigerator and freezer. Seating capacity in the shelter is 95.  The park features 3 lighted tennis courts, lighted basketball court, sand volleyball, ball field, soccer/football field. The park also has a bocce court, horseshoe pits, a shuffleboard court, accessible fishing pier and a children’s play area. Check out Lions Park in ParksNReviews.


This 2-acre recreation area is located at 510 Wegman Road.  The park features an open pavilion to accommodate approx. 24, 2 play structures, a climbing wall, and a swing set. The  park also has an accessible restroom. The park is open dawn to dusk. Check out Wegman Road Park in ParksNReviews.


Westgate Park is a 16.5-acre park located at 1489 Howard Road, next to the post office. This facility includes an enclosed shelter with a covered patio, a kitchen equipped with a stove, refrigerator and freezer. Seating capacity is 125. The park features an open pavilion seating up to 90, grills, 2 lighted tennis courts, 2 basketball courts, 2 baseball fields, 2 children’s play structures, and a nature trail. This 68-acre park has 4 soccer fields, restroom facilities, and a 90-foot baseball field, 2 play structures, swing set, climbers, tire swing, accessible fishing pier and the Woodlands Disc Golf Course. Built in the 1870’s, the historical Hinchey Homestead is the only structure in Gates listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is owned by the Town of Gates. The house and large barn sits on a 3.1 acre site located at 634 Hinchey Road. Rental Information

Persons wishing to reserve the shelters at Lions, Memorial, Wegman Road or Westgate Parks or the athletic fields may do so no more than 1 year in advance by obtaining a permit at the Gates Recreation and Parks Office. Shelters are available to rent from 9:00 a.m. to 9:45 p.m. daily.

Enclosed Picnic Shelters at Lions, Memorial & Westgate Parks:

 Residents: $150 per day

 Non-residents: $300 per day

Open Picnic Pavilions:

   Westgate Park  Wegman Road Park
 Residents:  $60 per day  $35 per day
 Non-residents:  $100 per day  $70 per day

Ball Diamonds and Football/Soccer Fields:

Athletic fields can be reserved by residents or groups made up primarily of residents. Permits will be issued after Gates Youth Sports Organizations schedules are set. Field use must be compatible with other activities, programs, and picnics within the parks, and the Recreation & Parks Department reserves the right to decline requests that they feel detrimental to the turf or in conflict with other programs. Fields at times may be closed for scheduled maintenance. Field fees are based on 2 hours of use:


Baseball/Softball: $50/2 hours  Soccer/Football/Lacrosse: $50/2 hours

Security Deposit: There will be a fee of $50 for Gates residents and $100 for non-residents required before a park key is issued to any individual in addition to the rental fee. The Recreation and Parks Department reserves the right to hold all or any portion of this deposit if the shelter is left in poor condition. This deposit will be returned to you upon return of the key and satisfactory inspection of the facility.

Park Shelter Reservation Refund/Change of Date Fee Policy: No refunds will be made unless notification of cancellation is given 30 calendar days in advance. The processing fee for all reservation refunds is $25There is a $20 charge for changes of date or location. Any date change must also be received 30 calendar days in advance.

Facility Reservations

You may view our shelter and pavilion availability and request a facility reservation for your date and location on-line between 7 days and up to 1 year in advance. You may wish to print these instructions prior to checking facility availability and request a facility reservation, by selecting this link: Determine Facility Availability.


You must have an ACCOUNT on file to request a facility on-line. Click here to set up a New Account or select the "Sign In" button above if you already have an account.

Select the “Facility Calendar" button above, which will bring up the current week of the FACILITY CALENDAR. This calendar displays all recreational activities and facility reservations for the week. Use the “CALENDAR FILTERS”, located in the upper right of the page. Set the filter for the facility or facilities you would like to reserve, by using the drop-down menus, as follows:

  • Set “Facility Category” to “Park”
  • Set Room Category to “Park Shelter” for an enclosed shelter or open pavilion or to “Athletic Field” for a baseball or football/soccer field.
  • Set “Facility” to the park, in which you wish to have your reservation. Leave the filter at “[ALL]” if you wish to check multiple parks.
  • Set “Room” to “Enclosed Shelter” or “Open Pavilion” of the park, in which you wish to have your reservation. Leave the filter at “[ALL]” if you wish to check multiple shelters.

You may view specific dates by either scrolling through the “Week of. . .” or clicking on the “Jump to” date, which will provide you a drop-down calendar, from which you may select the date(s), in which you are interested.

Once you have determined a possible date and facility for your reservation, select any Reserve a Facility link (listed below each day or on the “ACTIONS” menu to the left of the page, which will bring up the “Facility Reservation Request: Enter Request Information” page).

Select the “Requested By:” person and “Use Type:” from the drop-down menus, enter a short “Description:” of the reservation, and any special “Request Note:”. Please take note that if your reservation request is granted, the “Description:” on the “FACILITY CALENDAR” will read Reserved and your party is responsible for setting up and taking down your own tables and chairs (please do not request this in the “Request Note:”). Select the “Next” button, which will bring up the “Facility Reservation Request:” Facility & Date page.

Select the “Facilities:” and “Rooms:” from the drop-down menus, enter your expected “Head Count:” in the “Select a room or package to rent.” window. Please do not indicate “Setup Instructions”, as your party is responsible for setting up and taking down your own tables and chairs.

Select the “Start Date:” from the drop-down calendar and enter the “Start Time:” you wish to get into the shelter (earliest time is 9:00 AM) and “End Time:” you plan on being out of the shelter (latest time is 9:45 PM) in the “Enter Rental Date/Time Information” window. Please note the “End Date:” will automatically fill in. You need to take into consideration your set up and clean up times when indicating your “Start Time:” and “End Time:” and enter single digit times with a “0” (i.e. 9:00 AM entered as 09:00 AM). Select the “Next” button, which will bring up the page to “Facility Reservation Request: Review and Process” page.

Review the information presented. Select the “Previous” button to make any necessary corrections to your request. Select the “Add to Request” button if all the information is correct, which will bring up the final review page.

Select one of the following: “Add Package or Room to Rental” to request a second reservation. “Edit Rental Information” to make any corrections. “Delete Rental in Process” if you decide you do not wish to make the reservation at all. “Submit Rental for Approval” to send an e-mail to Gates Recreation and Parks requesting the reservation, which will bring up a pop-up window stating the request has been submitted. Select “Ok”, which will bring up the HOME page, and you will receive a confirmation e-mail. You will need to Sign out from your account.

To finalize your reservation, you will receive a second e-mail indicating if your reservation request has been approved or denied. If approved, you will be asked to come into the Recreation and Parks Office within 5 business days with proof of residency and payment.
